Brillantmont International School - Lausanne Switzerland since 1882

Brillantmont student from 1990 to 1993

“I attended Brillantmont from 1990 until 1993, and I can honestly say those were my best school years, about which I have the fondest memories. Not really knowing what I wanted to do at 18, but having developed an interest in economics (at least a small one), I decided to study economics at the University of Lausanne (HEC Lausanne). During my studies I was fortunate enough to have opportunities to work during summers in several countries (Germany, Denmark, Norway) but also to become a teaching and research assistant at the university. On graduating I felt I wanted to study further and took a M.A. at the EPFL, after which I worked in the private sector for some years, first in private banking and then in the telecommunication industry. Yet, the allure of academia never left me, and when the opportunity presented itself I went back to do my PhD, but this time in Management.

My doctoral years were extremely busy. During those four years I worked full time, got married, became a father and moved house three times. Through my thesis director I got involved in developing MBA programs, something I continue to be involved with to this day. I worked at two small Swiss universities, ending up a Lecturer and MBA Director of Studies at the University of Applied Sciences of Eastern Switzerland. On finishing my PhD I joined the EPFL back in Lausanne, as a post-doctoral researcher and Managing Director of several executive master programs. Finally, in April 2009, I was appointed Senior Lecturer in Strategic Management at Middlesex University, and moved to London with my family.
Together with a few friends from my BM times, I sometimes reminisce about the good times we shared at BM. Like so many alumni, I am very grateful for the warm, safe and healthy environment we were given as teenagers. There was never any bullying and it felt like we were all in the same boat. It's the kind of school I would want my own children to attend in the future.”
